Mamavation Monday 10/11/10

So let's start off with the scale picture:

Please disregard the chipped nail polish.

So, I can't say for sure what's up with this weight. I figured I gained weight over the past few weeks...but some of the weight being registered may or may not have to do with the fact that I had to buy a new scale because my old one was destroyed when my apartment flooded.

Sigh

This new scale is actually pretty crappy and I may or may not return it and get another. I haven't decided yet.

The Good:

I actually ran this week. TWICE! I really am not a fan of cardio unless it involves dancing around like a crazy person (see my post on this here) because I can't seem to get my breathing under control. I have to stop and catch my breath WAY before my muscles tire. Is this normal?

Regardless, I powered through two runs that were approximately a mile. The distance isn't fabulous, but it's a push for me and that's all that matters.

The Bad:

This past week was better with what I ate, but still not spectacular. I didn't gorge on fast food or anything, but my choices could have been better. This will be my focus this week.

The Ugly:

This morning, I tried mixing some greek yogurt, cottage cheese, peaches, and pumpkin pie spice for breakfast. It tasted great, but I could NOT get over the texture of the cottage cheese (I don't think I had ever tried cottage cheese before today). I tried eating it slowly, fastly, in big bites, etc. I just couldn't get past it. I think I'll have nightmares about those chewy, lumpy curds in my teeth. Someone suggested I use an immersion blender to blend it into a smoother texture, so I may try that once I get over my PTSD from the incident this morning. More than likely I'll just skip the cottage cheese and use greek yogurt only.

Other News:

Subway is this week's blogging carnival sponsor for Mamavation. They're giving away an iPod which would be FABULOUS since mine just bit the dust.

As of right now, the finalists for the Mamavation campaign haven't been announced. Good luck to everyone else who applied! If you haven't yet, please take a few minutes to view my application video here.

  2. WOO HOO!!! You have chipped toenail polish! ok, so those don't REALLY go together, but I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one in desperate need of a pedicure...

Congrats on making the finals!!! GOOD LUCK this week!

As for the cottage cheese, mixing with a stick blender might help - you can also mix it in with mashed cauliflower or potatoes instead of cream or butter... good luck with that too!

  4. OMG so funny about the cottage cheese. I can get squeamish about food too sometimes. Lesson learned!

Congrats on being a finalist! yay! Also, great on the fast food! BTW, I consider Starbucks fast food too and they have some great choices if you're on the run and need something healthy. Not the scones and muffins! They have whole grain bread with fruit and cheese and things like that.

    Good luck this week!

  5. Meant to say take it really easy when starting running. For me, if I were to do a mile before doing shorter distances, I would injure myself. Just keep an eye on your joints and ligaments. If you start having issues, slow down.

The breathing gets a lot better after a couple of weeks. It's great!!

  7. Congrats on being a Mamavation finalist!

I'm a texture phob too. I can handle cottage cheese because I've had it many times. My big thing is bananas. It seriously takes me, like...an hour to eat one because I like the taste but the texture makes me gag. It's really a sad display.

The running can be tough at first and it is normal for your lungs to cave before your legs do. You have to build up cardiovascular endurance, which you will as you get more and more into running and your body adapts to it.

    Good luck this week girl!

  11. That is how I feel about cottage cheese. I never though about blending it. I hear running gets easier the more you do it. Check out http://www.runningrachel.com/2010/09/21/tuesday-tips-running-form-proper-breathing/ she has some tips for us beginners that I need to incorporate into my own running. Congrats at being a finalist!

  12. I understand the cottage chese texture thing. I used to not like it because of that very thing!

However, I love it now. But with greek yogurt - GROSS! I only eat it with peaches or my favorite - tomatoes, cucumber, and a little salt and pepper.

Have a great week and congrats on being a finalist!

  14. Ewww... cottage cheese is sooo not my thing! Go for greek yogurt! I design yogurt plants and I would definately recommend greek yogurt that is made by Chobani... NOT Dannon or Yoplait... they still need to work on their production process...

Runing is tough! I've been working on building endurance and I've noticed that it gets my heart rate UP and it STAYS up... so that's tough... not that I dont think I could run longer but my heart rate is to high and Im out of breath@! its crazy!

Keep trying... it WILL get better... I'm so much farther than I was 6 weeks ago!

    Have a great week hun!

  17. Congrats on becoming a finalist CJ!

I feel you on the cottage cheese. I like the taste of it, I really do, but the texture is hard for me as well. They have different "sizes" of curds you can buy, and I usually go for the smallest. I actually like to use fat-free cottage cheese in place of ricotta in recipes.

Awesome job on the running, too! I really do need to get my act together with the exercising.

  18. We have the same scale, lol. Sometimes I have to step on it a couple times to make sure the reading is accurate.

Best of luck to you this week!
